Biography
decorativo 01

Didi Rodan was born in a Galician town (Spain) a stormy February night. Since childhood, Didi has displayed a fascination for drawing and painting. Her faculty for capturing reality and expressing feelings and emotions through art became evident really soon. Her passion was consistently encouraged by her parents, professional craftsmen, who taught Didi numerous techniques, which have been highly influential in the development of her own artistic style.
During school years, her exceptional talent for drawing became evident and she won several local and national drawing prizes. Ever since Didi was able to speak, she expressed her desire to study Fine Arts and, therefore, when she was only 10, Didi started to take painting and drawing lessons with different teachers who prepared her for enrolling in the School of Arts and Crafts, where she has paved the way for getting into the Faculty of Fine Arts. She has built her career in Fine Arts between Granada and Barcelona, getting excellent qualifications and feeling that there is no better place for her in the Universe.
However, Didi’s artistic concerns extend far beyond her career in Fine Arts, as she has also studied piano for seven years in the Official Conservatory of Music, attended classes in drama and dancing and, eventually, won several prizes in storytelling and poetry. She keeps on enquiring into any form of artistic expression she might develop, and in all of them she proves to have an unusual sensitivity and talent.
Being such a multifaceted personality has allowed her to settle in Madrid following her studies and to work in different art and communication-related spheres. She has worked as illustrator, storyboarder, art director, interior designer, window dresser, fashion designer and Arts and Drawing Teacher.

Didi Rodan and the Sand Art

Once settled in Madrid, Didi has made contact with Sand Art, also known as Sand Animation or Sand Painting. To her surprise, Didi realises that Sand Art pulls together many of her favourite artistic bents: drama, music and, certainly, drawing. Right away, she feels fascinated and comfortable with this technique, so she shuts herself for many hours in a dark room in order to see unbelievable figures and marvellous stories to come up. Her talent turns up from her fingers with the sand so smoothly that anyone who sees her gets impressed. And this is how the story of this sand artist begins. Didi starts to offer Sand Art performances all over the World and becomes known as “Didi Sand Art”, “the magical woman”, “Wizard of sand” or “Didi magic hands”. The visitors of this website might form their own opinion about the sand artist called Didi Rodan, the first and the only woman sand artist in Spain who also gives the name to the international Sand Art.

Sand Art is a hypnotic art full of transformations. It is based on telling stories that make the spectator travel through his imagination and dreams. It creates moments of pure emotion and communication from the deep of the heart. In achieving it, Sand Art – like any art – builds on hard work, which leads to fluency. Any hand movement, any gesture, any line, any scene… must arise with an apparent facility and at a pace allowing to intensively live this unique, surprising and touching experience.
